Different type of floorings are being opted for these days, and one of these is the carbonized bamboo flooring which is gradually becoming a hot favorite. Virtually any kind of a decor could match well with the carbonized bamboo flooring. The beauty of a carbonized bamboo floor is that it does not promote dust, and can be free from dust mites. Many homeowners have the belief that carbonized bamboo flooring is ideal for those suffering from allergies.

Besides being an eco friendly product it is very easy to clean. Process and prices of installing carbonized is just like installing any floor made of hardwood. Contractors proficient in fixing up flooring may not even need too many tools or any kind of special training for fixing up carbonized. A few adventurous homemakers may even decide to install carbonized all by themselves as it is not very difficult either.

Benefits of the carbonized options:

Carbonized flooring options basically have a simple tongue and groove design, which gets locked by snapping together. Later the boards can then be nailed or stapled to the sub flooring. If you do not wish to nail it then glue too can be used. Some important facts about bamboo flooring need to be understood before installing it. The darker color of the bamboo is obtained from the inside of the bamboo, because sugar is present in raw bamboo, and when raw bamboo is boiled, a dark color is obtained due to the caramelized sugar. Usually sap is present in trees, but in raw bamboo, sugar is present, which helps in giving that natural dark color.

Beautiful exotic designs:

As compared to natural bamboo, carbonized is softer. It is still quite durable even after it is boiled. The boiling process helps in softening raw bamboo by thirty percent, which makes it a bit prone to dents and scratches, but on the whole it can be durable. The appearance of carbonized depends on the size of the bamboo stalks and the horizontal and vertical flooring. Stalks of bamboo are hollow from the inside, so manufacturers need to laminate bamboo so that they can be converted into boards.

To get the horizontal appearance, bamboo strips are laid flat with growth rings shown on the top of them. For the vertical appearance the lamination is done on the turned bamboo strips which help in creating long thin rows of bamboo. One can get two different appearances by fixing the bamboo strips vertical or horizontal.

Both carbonized as well as natural bamboo can be woven. Appearance of a tiger stripe design can be obtained by weaving both carbonized as well as natural bamboo strands together for a more exotic loom. Bamboo strands if woven, become stronger. Strands or strips of bamboo firstly coated and then with the help of heat they are then compressed together to form exotic designs. This weaving process results in carbonized flooring, which is hard as well as strong.

Just as you would clean a hardwood floor in the same way you can clean a carbonized floor. A simple soft mop or a broom is just enough to do the cleaning. Water if used for cleaning, should be wiped off immediately. Water can do harm when it sits on wooden or bamboo surfaces. Scrubbing with scratch pads and use of harsh chemicals is a strict no. To maintain natural luster and shine you can wax the surface of carbonized flooring.

Your yard is basically the first part of your home that everyone sees. It is this type of landscaping that will surely make the first impression on your visitors. Well, you want a nice yard if you are one of those people that like to have a nice home and make a good first impression. In this article we are going to discuss some significant ways to make sure that your yard will look great. The main way we are going to do that is through the trees you plant in your yard.

First and foremost, the kind of trees we will be focusing on is the foxtail palm tree. Many people have decorated their yard with palm trees. But not many people have a foxtail palm tree. These are a rare type of palm that normally live only in warmer climates or temperatures.

But recently, some of the growers have successfully been acclimating them to milder weather temperatures. This has allowed these beautiful species to start to thrive in milder weather and allow new homes to be the first to have them in their neighborhoods.

The next type of palm tree you could consider for your yard is the coconut palm tree. Like the foxtail, this is typically another rare type of palm. It usually grows only in warmer temperature areas, but it is now able to grow in milder weather temperatures also.

The major concept is to use some rare palm trees to make your yard look beautiful and make your landscaping stand out from the rest. So if you are in the market to buy palm trees, definitely consider these rare palms. You can’t go wrong with them because not only are they rare, but they look great.

Launched in October of 2009, Bid For Materials, an online marketplace for construction supply providers to connect with contractors has registered over 750 suppliers in only 2 months.

Medford, NY December 28, 2009- In October 2009, Frederick Cann Jr., Tom Costarelli and Allen Weinstein launched Bid For Materials as a way to connect suppliers and contractors online, saving them time, and money. The website allows construction professionals to create profiles and gain access to a nationwide database of suppliers and contractors. Contractors have the opportunity to post lists of the supplies they need, and suppliers are able to send them private offers for what they are able to provide.

In only two short months, the site, located at www.bidformaterials.com has already registered over 750 suppliers, all looking to connect with construction contractors who want a better price for their building supplies. “Contractors get endless possibilities for better prices on materials, which results in better bids to customers, generating more work for their company. Suppliers get unlimited leads, which improves their sales as well. It’s a no brainer,” says Cann, who is both excited about and proud of the site’s rapid growth.

Since the launch, the company has added two new partners, John O’Hara and Mark Seiden, who is pleased to be able to help out fellow construction industry workers. “As a contractor, I immediately saw what BidForMaterials.com could do,” says Seiden. “Before, contractors were ‘locked-in’ with local suppliers. Now, our company helps to free them by opening up a much larger group of suppliers and for suppliers, it opens a new group of contractors.” The company will be exhibiting their site at the 2010 International Builders Show in Las Vegas, NV at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 19th through January 22nd in booth #C3085.

Upon returning to their Medford, Long Island headquarters, Cann, Costarelli, Weinstein, O’Hara and Seiden hope to see continued growth from the site in the new year; and the recent upturn in the construction industry may just bring that hope to fruition.

There are various important factors that must be kept in mind in the interior design of any area. Proper adherence to the principles given below will assist in tackling with most of these aspects. All of them play an important role in the attractiveness of a space, though they may be put to use in varied ways in different situations.

Unity: This entails the idea that the entire home or any other structure is to be seen as a single unit, separated or divided only by walls and staircases, and that there should be a certain amount of internal consistency in the design of the unit as a whole. The overall theme must always be kept in mind.

Balance: This means appropriately adjusting items in a particular space. It is always better to place things with equal visual features at diverse points so as to achieve a good balance. Balance can be of three kinds. The most basic type is symmetrical balance, which is quite easy to attain. The second type is asymmetrical balance, which is highly popular, but needs a good deal of creativity. A radial balance is the third kind, which is achieved by defining a small core and placing objects around that.

Proportion: This is basically to do with the dimensions and proportions of the articles. It is vital that most articles in a space be proportional to each other. An absence of proportion will cause the room to lose its overall attraction as certain objects will be too prominent, while others may get buried in the background.

Focus: Having a focus in a room is a sign of good interior design. Focal articles can be anything ranging from a furniture article to an attractive painting or some other art work. The item should be such that it is important in the overall design of the room and is able to attract the attention of the onlooker. It must look attractive, but not look out of place.

Rhythm: Having a rhythm too is absolutely important for attaining a good design. This means that the design must give a feeling of continuity and smooth flow. This can be attained through the use of arcs, patterned walls or ceilings, through artworks or furnishings, and through repeating colours or shapes.

Keeping these principles in mind will help in effective and attractive interior designing of your house. It is advisable to engage a good interior design expert who can take care of all these aspects and also assist you with the details.

This time, they don’t expect to find anything.

After the FBI has finished digging for corpses possibly buried there by the mob, the vacant East Farmingdale parcel on Del Drive is now ready for development.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Tuesday at the nearly two-acre parcel, the site of a new 12,500-square-foot industrial building for Thermo King, which is relocating from about 5,000 square feet in Amityville.

In October 2008, FBI agents dug up the remains of Colombo underboss William Cutolo, after informers told officials that bodies were buried in the industrial park. The FBI returned to the property in February 2009 to search for the remains of Alphonse Persico and John DeRoss, who were recently sentenced to life in prison for their role in the 1999 Cutolo killing.

The new Thermo King building will be LEED-certified, according to Mark Seiden of LMJ Contracting in Farmingdale, which is constructing the facility.
Michael Rudnick of Thermo King said 21 jobs will come to the new building, and he expects to double that amount within the next five years. Thermo King, based in Minneapolis, is a division of Ingersoll Rand. Thermo King pioneered refrigerated trucking in 1938, which allowed perishables to be shipped across distances without using ice and straw.

The groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for noon at 309 Del Drive is sponsored by bidformaterials.com, an online site where building materials are available for bid by contractors.

Nobody wants to have termites, but the sad fact is we are all at risk. Termites can invade any house; they do not choose places to infest. Some consider a termite invasion is just a pain in the neck, but termites can do much more damage than you can imagine. They are a vital part of our ecosystem, but in our homes they are destructive. If you do not discover them before they start doing big damage, they can destroy your entire home.

Sadly, homeowners usually don’t even know they have termites until after a lot of damage has already happened. Having a bit of knowledge about the beginning signs of termites will help protect your house before the problem comes out or escalates. Termites will do more harm to a chunk of wood in a short amount of time. Therefore, knowing some things to watch for will help you stop a termite infestation before great damage is done.

You should know that not all termite infestations can be seen by the untrained eye. A little more time and a more conditioned eye is required in order to find these wood eating creatures. Your floors, walls, furniture & other areas of the house that is made of wood are some of the usual areas they attack. Another tip to help determine termite infestation is checking in mud holes and feces piles.

Discovering the early signs of termite attacks require checking areas where termites normally would go. Check outside, in the garden & lawn area; tree stumps, dead leaves and mud holes in the soil. Also look for entryways into your walls. See if your walls have cracks or spaces where they could go. Window sills, basement walls, moldings, and door frames are also some places to check.

If any show signs of feeding activity, you should reach a professional exterminator or pest control company. If you have the proper equipment, you can even do it yourself. The main idea here is to detect the problem before serious troubles arise.
